Since Air Force and RIT both entered the Atlantic Hockey Conference at the start of the 2006-2007 season they have been the best two teams in the conference. Together they have combined to win the regular season title 5 out of 9 times, and the AHA playoffs 7 out of 9 times.

The above chart shows the Elo rating of both teams over this time with Air Foce in blue, and RIT in orange. The teams have been closely matched for all but two seasons. While the teams battled back and forth for all of the 2011-2012 season, the closest was probably the previous year in 2011 where Rochester dominated all season long, only to lose to Air Force in the championship game of the playoffs.
